6pm on 18 April the Oakleigh Polish Church was filled to full capacity as people arrived from all over Melbourne to support a fund-raising concert for The Kenya Bible Project. It is estimated that over 400 people were present to hear a wide variety of musical excellence from dedicated Adventist musicians and singers. Performers across all age groups showed great passion and willingness to contribute to God's work. The audience was blessed by world class singing talent from soloists and duets and the magnificent Lysterfield/Rowville choir conducted by Brad Jones. Instrumentalists used cello, violin, guitar, accordion, piano, organ, flute and saxophone.
The entire event had been organised through the dedicated volunteer work of Jola Mielczarek and her supporters.
An amount of $5,858 was raised. HKEA had appointed Pastor Ed Totenhofer to serve as custodian of the funds and he will transfer the funds to the East Central Africa Division Office.
The money will allow the non-Adventist leaders of 325 seventh-day Sabbath keepers to purchase Bibles in four different African languages: Gikuyu, Karenjin, Kisii and Shahili.
On 6 March these non-Adventist leaders contacted Herb Kersten, a Melbourne Seventh-day Adventist evangelist whose growing internet ministry is attracting a worldwide audience. Sensitive dialogue between the leaders and Herb Kersten continued throughout March, resulting in an agreement that the leaders meet with Dr John Kakembo, the East Central Africa Ministerial Secretary at the Nairobi Division offices. Ongoing engagement with the church continues between the non-Adventist leaders and Pastor Paul Muasya, Union President for East Central Africa. We sense it is in God's plan that the 325 Sabbath keepers will continue to engage with the Seventh-day Adventist Church to grow their understanding of truth and we ask that you please uphold this matter in your prayers.
Herb Kersten runs HKEA, an independent ministry supportive of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The HKEA website is http://www.hkea.org.au and their email address is hkea@hkea.org.au On behalf of the Kenya Sabbath keepers, HKEA extends heartfelt gratitude to all those Adventists who attended the concert and gave so very generously.
