Jubileusz 35 lecia Kongresów Polonii Adwentystycznej w Australii
Życie Polonii Adwentystycznej w Australii odmierzane jest Kongresami.
Nie do wiary jak ten czas szybko „ucieka” – obchodzimy 35 lat od chwili zorganizowania pierwszego Kongresu , który odbył się 25 – 27 grudnia 1973 r. w Erraring, NSW.
Erraring to miejscowość na wschodnich obrzeżach Australii i choć dokuczał skwar, większość uczestników z całej Australii przemierzała setki (tysiące) kilometrów nie najnowszymi samochodami bez aklimatyzacji – często w chłodnicach woda się gotowała..
Własna pomoc samochodowa była na każde zawołanie SOS, nawet w jednym przypadku o północy ekipa musiała jechać z Erraring do Sydney ratować z opresji kongresowiczów.
Kongres odbywał się pod dużym namiotem, a z nieba „walił żar”, ale nikt sobie nie narzekał, wszyscy cieszyli się spotkaniem ze swoimi współwyznawcami rozrzuconymi po Ausralii – z Rodakami, z którymi mogli porozmawiać w ojczystym języku.
Nie obyło się bez „katastrof”. W nocy z piątku na sobotę potężna burza obudziła wszystkich i okazało się, że duży namiot się wali. Trzeba go było ratować, podtrzymać i umocnić.
Trzeba było posprawdzać i poprawić namioty, w których kongresowicze usiłowali przespać noc.
W dzień natomiast dawał się we znaki gorąc, duchota i dokuczały buszowe muszki.
Nastroje były jednak wyśmienite – radość, śpiew, muzyka; uściski, rozmowy którym nie było końca i......... wtedy postanowiono – organizujemy następne Kongresy, ale już w odpowiednich salach i pomieszczeniach.
I tak po 35 latach spotkaliśmy się 25 grudnia 2008 r. na kolejnym XVII Kongresie Polonii Adwentystycznej w Melbourne.
Jaka różnica?
Spotkaliśmy się w komfortowych warunkach w polskim kościele adwentystycznym Dandenong z klimatyzacją, wygodnymi miękkimi ławkami, radiofonizacją – a nawet najnowszym osiągnięciem elektroniczno-komputerowej technologii „pofrunęliśmy w świat”, a świat był u nas dzięki ekipie College Park church media in Adelaide – transmisja była emitowana w internecie na żywo.
Po powrocie do domu otrzymałem telefon z Polski z Krakowa – „widzieliśmy i słuchaliśmy was”.
W ciągu tych 35 lat entuzjazm (szczególnie u tych młodszych) może nieco zmalał, młodsi juz nie wykazują tak wielkiego zainteresowania życiem adwentystycznej polonii wtapiając się w język i środowisko australijskie.
Nadal jednak polski adwentyzm w Australii żyje i raduje widok tych najstarszych, którzy przybyli po raz siedemnasty na Kongres, by w polskiej mowie chwalić Boga i cieszyć się społecznościa z Rodakami.
Nie zabrakło i tych młodszych tzn. drugiego, trzeciego a nawet czwartego pokolenia.
Ile jeszcze odbędzie się takich Kongresów? Na ile sił wystarczy?
Może niedługo nadejdzie nasz Pan i spotkamy się wszyscy (łącznie z tymi, którzy już odeszli!) na Kongresie niebiańskim.... czy to będzie polski?

35th ANNIVERSARY OF POLISH ADVENTIST CONGRESSES IN AUSTRALIA
The life of Polish Adventists in Australia is measured in terms of our Congresses. It is simply unbelievable how quickly the time has flown! We celebrate the 35th anniversary since the first Polish Adventist Congress was held in Eraring from the 25th to the 27th of December 1973.
Eraring is located on the eastern seaboard of the Central Coast of New South Wales and although we were plagued by extremely hot weather, many participants from all over Australia travelled hundreds (and in some cases thousands) of kilometres in their not so late model vehicles, with no air conditioning, often with radiators overheating…..
Our own ‘roadside assistance’ was available for any SOS received – in one case a ‘service team’ travelled from Eraring after receiving a midnight call from motorists stranded in Sydney.
The Congress was held in a large tent, roasting in the summer heat – but there were no complaints, everyone was happy to be in the company of fellow believers who hailed from far and wide, fellow countrymen with whom one could converse in our native language.
Some ‘catastrophes’ could not be avoided. During the night from Friday to Saturday we were all awoken by a huge thunderstorm to find that the main tent was being blown over. We had to save it! After much wrestling with tent lines and pegs the main tent was made secure. Next the individual tents (in which the participants were trying to sleep), also had to be checked and in many cases re-pitched.
The days were marked by stifling heat, humidity and those pesky bush flies, sand flies and mosquitoes. The atmosphere however, was wonderful! Happiness, singing, music, hugs, conversations without end….and then we decided; we will plan subsequent Congresses – but next time in proper facilities.
And so after 35 years we met on the 25th of December 2008 at the XVII Polish Adventist Congress which was held in Melbourne.
What were the differences?
The Congress commenced in the comfort of the Polish Seventh Day Adventist Church in Dandenong. With air conditioning, comfortable and padded church pughs, full video and audio service, and ultimately our latest development in electronic computer based technology; ‘web casting’. This allowed us to ‘fly abroad’ to the whole world and conversely invited the whole world to be our guest. Thanks to the expertise of the Adelaide College Park media team, all the proceedings were live cast to the internet. After returning home that night I received a phone call from Kracow; ‘We saw and heard you!’
Over this span of 35 years, the enthusiasm (particularly amongst the younger generations) has waned somewhat – those younger members who are assimilating into the Australian culture and language are not showing the same enthusiasm for life in Polish Adventist circles. However Polish Adventism in Australia lives on and rejoices at the sight of those oldest members who have come for the seventeenth time to participate in the Congress in order to praise God in their native tongue and to rejoice in the fellowship of their countrymen. There was no shortage in attendance of those younger ones i.e. those of the second, third and fourth generation.
How many more such Congresses will we see? How many will we have the energy to organise? Maybe soon our Lord will come and we will all meet (together with all those who have passed away) at the great Heavenly Congress….will it be in Polish??
